HOW TO BEST LIGHT INCENSE STICKS

HERE IS OUR GUIDE ON HOW TO BEST BURN INCENSE STICKS

Our incense sticks are made of plant-based ingredients, so by burning this rolled aromatic material you are unleashing fragrances straight from the source. Ume high grade incense sticks smell quite different while burning - yet don't smell much from the packet. So you are going to want to light one up and experience

HOW TO LIGHT, BURN & BEST ENJOY INCENSE

- 5 STEPS

One - Light the Very Tip Only

Light the very tip of your incense stick with a match. Be careful not to put too much of the incense stick into the flame, just the very tip,  so as not to make any part of the stick black. This is to get the best fragrance possible, while it is smouldering. if it gets black, you will smell a charred aroma … if this happens you have to wait until this clears … as it is not the true scent of the incense! (It’s like burning a piece of toast), the more careful you are not to burn too much of the tip, the better the scent

Two - Waft the Flame Out

The incense stick will start to smoulder and the end will be red, as it burns steadily. Waft out the flame with your palm - don’t blow !

Three - Place in a Holder

Place the incense stick in an incense stick holder or incense bowl. This will catch the sacred ash. There are many types of holder you could choose, see our holders page for the ones we recommend for Japanese style incense sticks

Four - Position Two Meters Away from You

Ensure the incense is at least two meters away from you and the room is well ventilated. Do not inhale the smoke directly. I always open a small window - not only does this refresh the air in your space, it allows old energy out and new energy cycling in

Five - Enjoy your Incense

Enjoy your chosen scent. They burn for approx 20-50 minutes (depending on the length), however if you just want a light scent in your room, or you have a small room, you may wish to turn off before it finishes

You can either: turn the stick upside down in your holder and it will go out naturally - or snap a stick in half before lighting and just burn a little bit

I hope this was a helpful short guide on how to burn incense sticks correctly
