Oriental ink painting, as well as wood block printing, have been inspirational art styles of mine for a long while now. The simplicity of subject - usually focused on dramatic naturescapes coupled with vibrant colours, are really appealing. Only recently though I've discovered the lifetime work of Liu Kuo-Sung, a Chinese born artist who has been based in Taiwan most of his life.
His bold ink painting feels so contemporary, yet most of the images in this selection were made in the 1960's. These pieces really stand out for their embodiment of ancient subject matter such as mountains and the cosmos, yet are also relevant to the universal wonder of existence now.
